To mark the centenary of the birth of the Senegalese novelist and filmmaker Ousmane Sembene, a statue representing his bust was unveiled on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the headquarters of the Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco) whose 28th edition celebrates the centenary of the filmmaker through a series of activities.
Present in Ouagadougou as part of the 28th edition of FESPACO, Malian Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maiga accompanied by his Burkinabe counterpart Apollinaire Joachimsom Kyelem de Tambela paid tribute to the filmmaker whose bust joins that of another Senegalese director, Paulin Soumanou Vieyra installed at the headquarters since February 2017.
