Yennenga post-prod: Eligibility and requirements

film eligibility criteria

– Submissions must be films in finishing phase made exclusively by directors from African countries;

– Only fictional feature films and documentaries (with minimum length of 60 minutes) will be considered;

– Filmmakers with projects must be in their first or second debut feature film (fictional or documentary);

– In the context of the YENNENGA POST-PRODUCTION workshop, only one project will be allowed per director;

– In the context of the YENNENGA POST- PRODUCTION workshop, a maximum of two projects will be allowed per producer.

Sub-titling

Films not in French or English must have sub-titles in either language before submission.

Subsequent submission

Films are allowed to participate in only one edition of the YENNENGA POST- PRODUCTION workshop.

Submission to other sections of the Festival

Submission to the YENNENGA POST- PRODUCTION workshop excludes any submission to another official section of the Festival in the same year. However, the film may be submitted to the official sections of the Festival the following edition.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

Registration period
21 June to 15 August 2021

Material to be submitted for selection

To be considered for selection, applicants must:

  • Complete the form via the following link…, providing the information requested, and upload the required material on the platform;
  • A link to a rough cut or selected scenes of the film (45 minutes minimum) with French or English sub-titles; and
  • Total budget of film indicating the amount to be needed to complete the film.

Required material:

  • Synopsis;
  • Director’s note of intent;
  • Producer’s note of intent;
  • Director’s bio-filmography;
  • Producer’s bio-filmography;
  • Photos and visuals of film;
  • Name and address of production company;
  • Director’s and producer’s cover letter specifying the post-production needs and expectations of the film; and
  • Viewing link and password of the film.

Return of films submitted

The Festival doesn’t have to send back the films submitted to selection.

SELECTION PROCESS

Selection

Headed by the Delegate General of FESPACO, a selection committee will be responsible for the selection of films; its decisions shall be final and irrevocable.

The selection committee reserves the right to select or not any post-production films or projects submitted.

The results of the selection shall be shared through official channels (site web, Email, etc.).

YENNENGA POST- PRODUCTION COMMITS TO :

  • Cover the participation costs of selected artistic teams (director or producer);
  • Make provision for the transport, accommodation and meals of participants throughout the programme; and
  • Provide the best support to each film through targeted and customized assistance.

SELECTED FILMS

Selected films will receive a commitment form to be completed and returned. Receipt by the Festival of the completed and signed form shall imply legal acceptance to attend all the activities of the programme; acceptance shall be considered final and binding.

Invitation to a film to participate in the workshop shall remain completely confidential until official announcement of the Yennenga Post-Production programme.

Copies and material

Representatives of invited films must send in due time all the information required and material necessary for the production of the Yennenga Post-Production brochure and the organization of consultations and screenings:

  • Synopsis;
  • Director’s note of intent;
  • Producer’s note of intent;
  • Detailed technical data sheet;
  • Director’s bio-filmography;
  • Producer’s bio-filmography;
  • Photos and visuals of film;
  • Name and address of production company;
  • Director’s and producer’s cover letter specifying the post-production needs and expectations of the film; and
  • Copies and viewing links of film.

Prize

Prizes under the Yennenga Post-Production programme are as follows:

  1. FESPACO Post-Production Aid Prize in the amount of Euro Seven thousand five hundred (7,500);
  2. CNC (National Centre for Cinema and Animated Image-France) Prize in the amount of Euro Five thousand (5,000);
  3. DoxBox Prize for a documentary film comprised of a Post-Production grant (Transport/for 1 person, Stay + Studio fees) worth Euro 30,000 in Berlin, Germany;
  4. Noureddine Saïl Prize comprised of a Post-Production grant (Transport/for 1 person, Stay + Studio fees) worth Euro 50,000 in Casablanca, Morocco.

CONSIDERATION

Any communication aid or promotional material of award-winning films must include a reference to the involvement of the Yennenga Post-Production programme, using the official logo of the programme with the mention “This film has received support from FESPACO/YENNENGA POST-PRODUCTION” in its opening and closing credits.

Any films selected as part of the YENNENGA POST-PRODUCTION PROGRAMME must include the logo of the YENNENGA POST- PRODUCTION programme in their credits with the mention “The film has participated in the FESPACO/YENNENGA POST- PRODUCTION programme”.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

Participation in the YENNENGA POST- PRODUCTION programme implies unwavering adherence to this Regulation.

Producers, distributors or any other persons submitting a film must ensure that they are duly authorized to do so.

The Delegate General of FESPACO reserves the right to settle any cases not covered by this Regulation and to opt out of it in specific and justified circumstances.

In the event of a dispute over the interpretation of the provisions of the Regulation, the original text in French shall be considered authentic.
