Since 2010, Frank Mukunday and Tétshim have been producing self-taught animated films. Starting from the practice of drawing (Tétshim) and video (Frank), their duo founded the studio “Crayon de cuivre” in Lubumbashi. After two experimental films “Cailloux” and “Kukinga”, Machini is their first film made in professional production conditions.

Le champ de Zozaniba

Synopsis

Every year, Zozaniba plants the best cassava stems in winter season in his field. Meanwhile, Surukuba sleeps under a tree waiting for the harvest time to help himself and destroy the rest. Tired, Zozaniba decides to speak to Surukuba, in vain. He calls on Waraba for help. Together, they set up a plan that will bring Surukuba to his senses.

Synopsis

The king of Mangou goes to war against the fearsome army of the kingdom of noon. He first consults the supreme master for his help to win the war. The supreme master consents on the condition that he brings him back as a sacrifice the symbolic of the entire war loot.

Kossi Messan AKODA’s taste for drawing as he was still a child led him into directing short animation films after his studies. In 2018, he directed his first short La malice de la bête (FESPACO 2019 official selection). La Symbolique du Butin has been selected at Make Art not War Teaser Film Festival in 2020 in California and at Silicon Valey African Film Festival in 2020. AKODA attended Durban Talent and Durban FilmMart in 2020 with his feature project La choisie

Ganja

Synopsis

Ndiogou, a young Indian hemp addict, is about to have his last shot. To get into the mood, he sings an old Bob Marley song which just happens to be the Ganjas magic formula. This music has always been the shield protecting the Ganjas from addicted smokers. Ndiogou finds himself trapped in a trial that will be decisive.

A passionate about cinema, Amath NDIAYE began his career making animation and audio-visual films. In the 2000s, he set up a small production company Obelus Films and Animations Studio. He made his directional debut with Geuti Goudi in 2012, an innovative silent film, followed by Maty in 2017. In addition to directing and producing, Amath is a trainer in several cinema and audio-visual school and institutions.

Mami Wata : le mystère d’Iveza

Synopsis

Young journalist Oliwina returns to her hometown of Agouwé in Gabon, she left 15 years ago after a traumatic event, to investigate the disappearance of her younger brother. Upon arrival, bodies of 5 unidentified children are found in a nearby mangrove swamp. In this small town surrounded by Ocean and mangroves, the name of Mami Wata is on everyone’s lips.

Samantha BIFFOT cofounded in 2010 the company Princesse M Productions. She wrote and directed the series L’oeil de la Cité, which was awarded the best TV series prize at FESPACO in 2013. In 2015, she directed her first full-length documentary film, which was awarded the Special Prize at Escales Documentaires in Libreville. She co-wrote and directed the adaptation of the successful Gabonese TV show Parents Mode d’Emploi.

Wara

Synopsis. Professor of Law at the University, Moutari is running for municipal elections. Prompted by Aïcha, a brilliant student, he undertakes to defend the cause of young people in demand for change. Mariam Shugger, a professor of science, is arrested while in class and charged with the murder of her husband. This triggers astonishment and anger among the students who are already tired of waiting for their scholarship. Aïcha who entered into politics to stand for women’s conditions learns that Shugger is her mother.

Synopsis

Fatoumata KANDE, aka Fatou Kandé Senghor, studied Languages, Civilizations and Filmography at Charles De Gaulle University in France. She is an artist and director of creative documentary, TV series and fictional films. She is also a photo/video trainer for young people out of the traditional learning system. Ten years back, she founded Waru Studio, an art place for young artists, filmmakers and researchers to explore interconnection between art, technology and politics.

Synopsis

In Gagnoa, incorrigible Sea Dangah is organizing a tourist circuit he calls “Dream Trip”. Rachelle Adigri, Sea’s possessive fiancée wants to be part of the trip at all costs. A few hours before departure, Sea discovers the burn-out old car – badjan “Mollo Mollo, only the finish counts!” – which he inherits for his trip. It’s a disaster! Sea doesn’t know that he is having in his hands the loot from the robbery of the biggest pastry of Gagnoa which Bassolé́ Kangah concealed in the old car.

Marina NIAVA is an emerging award-winning filmmaker and writer. A graduate of Journalism and Audio-visual Production, Marina trained in writing and filmmaking at San Francisco Academy of Art in California. She has directed several shorts (Twenty-one; Worse; Noirs au soleil levant) and a web series. She has created the soap opera Twenty-one (2019), co-directing many episodes. The travelling comedy Voyage de rêve provided an opportunity to reveal her talents as a director on a TV series.
