Biography

Marie Laurentine Bayala studied Communication and Journalism at the University of Ouagadougou. After her master’s degree, she began film studies at Gaston Berger University, obtaining a Master 2 in documentary filmmaking. She has directed, among others, Amour sans frontières (2007, Spanish Foundation Award for Audio-visual Investigation); Jusqu’au bout (2010, Sergio Viera de Mello Award for Human Rights at Ciné-droit-libre Festival); Au fantôme du père (2018, Audience Award at the Festival of Cultural Identities).

Diplômé de l’Université Paris X-Nanterre dans le département Scénario, Lionel Meta a réalisé et autoproduit deux courts métrages Je me marierai avec mon père et La Métaphore du Manioc. Mariam est son premier court métrage produit. Il développe actuellement une série sur l’univers carcéral.

Synopsis

Over here the suicide bomber is chosen by chance and subjected to funeral rites to accomplish God’s work. This morning the messenger of God is 12-year-old Fatima. Dropped off in a village market, wearing an explosive belt marked 10 minutes to kill the enemies of God. Fatima realizes that this is the market where her mother sells, and where she also rediscovers life. For 9 minutes, it’s an inner journey during which she swings from present to past.

Biography

Director and producer Amina Abdoulaye Mamani made her debut in cinema with the African Documentary Film Forum in Niamey, after studying audio-visual production at IFTIC in Niamey. With her graduation documentary film Le Hawan idi, she won the best school documentary film prize at FESPACO 2013. In 2014, she made Le silence des papiers, selected at APT African Film Festival. In 2018, she directed Sur les traces de Mamani Abdoulaye, which was selected and awarded at several festivals.

Leslie Tô is an independent Burkinabe-American scripter and director with a Master of Arts, Media and Culture and a Certificate in film production. She began her career as an associate producer for Link TV : Television without borders, developing a TV pilot, Coup d’état. Her short films Redéfinition ; Northwestern University ; and Release have screened in international festivals.

Synopsis

It’s October, raining season in Fouta, a remote region in Northern Senegal. Astel (13 years old) goes in the bush with her father every day. Together they tend to their herd to cattle. One day, in the middle of the desert, the young girl meets the shepherd, upsetting the peaceful relations between Astel and her father.

After a completing a Master 1 in Performing Arts in Cinema and Audio-visual at Paris Nanterre University and a Master 2 in Script at Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français, Ramata-Toulaye Sy attended Ateliers Egalité des Chances at Fémis in 2009-2010. Accepted in the 2011 Fémis competition in the Script Department, she graduated in 2015. In 2020, she made her debut short film Astel, supported by CNC’s Support prior to production, France 3, Canal+ International and FOPICA in Senegal.

Synopsis

Samuel Suffren is a Haitian director. He has directed several short films selected and awarded at many international festivals. His latest short film “Agwe” is in the official selection at Locarno Festival and Clermont Ferrand Film Market. He is currently developing a feature documentary « Lòtbò« , winner of Francophonie’s Fond Images, Young Francophone Creation, PROCIREP… « Je m’appelle Nina-Shakira » is his new fiction feature film project, an adaptation of « Les Immortelles« , a novel by Mackenzy Orcel.
